Application of Static Compensator to improve the Power Quality of Grid Connected Induction Generator Based Wind Farm

Posted by ADMIN at 4:00 PM 0 Comments
Abstract- Due to large power demand and environmental issues, electrical power generation from renewable energy sources is receiving more attention. Wind energy generation systems are being integrated to power networks worldwide in increasing numbers. The power system is therefore facing new challenges due to intermittent nature of input source. One of these problems is voltage stability in wind farms equipped with squirrel cage based induction generators. Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices can be used for this problem. This paper, investigates the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) application to achieve continuous operation of wind turbine equipped with cage based induction generators during grid faults. The simulation has been done in MATLAB/Simulink framework. It is shown that a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) enhances voltage profile of power grid containing induction generator based wind farm.

This paper has demonstrated the effect of wind energy generation in power systems due to the uncertain characteristics of wind turbine system which causes variations in system voltage. Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) device such as Static Compensator "STATCOM" is power electronic based switch is used to control the reactive power and therefore bus voltages. Results are presented to show that the voltage at bus 25 drops to very low value of .91 pu due to insufficient reactive power but this bus voltage gets improved to 0.98 when STATCOM is incorporated in the system. Thus the voltage and hence power quality of the entire power system due to integration of STATCOM with wind generation is improved.

Closed loop speed control of a 24V brushless DC motor (BLDC) with Hall sensors

Posted by ADMIN at 8:03 AM 0 Comments
BLDC Motors are fast replacing the traditional DC motors with a physical commutator made of copper segments and carbon brushes because of the following advantages
Ø Higher efficiencies
Ø High torque to inertia ratios
Ø Greater speed versus torque characteristics
Ø Lower maintenance costs
Ø Better thermal efficiencies and
Ø Lower audible noise.
The motivation behind this project is the need to produce a simple closed loop speed control system which is cost effective and efficient. Other products on the market are quite expensive because they incorporate some functionality that the customers do not even need.So this design will satisfy the customers who just need a low cost drive with closed loop speed controller for their BLDC motors.
 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The aim of the project is to design and build a  variable speed drive for a three phase 24V BLDC motor with Hall sensors.A digital (PI) closed loop speed controller is to be implemented. This involves the derivation of the motor transfer function and its application in the controller design using MATLAB. A dsPIC30F2010 micro-controller is to be used.
 PROJECT GOALS
To design a robust drive that will be reasonably priced compared to what is already on the market.
To design a drive which can give very good control of
steady state conditions particularly the steady state error and
transient conditions particularly the overshoot, rise time and the settling time.
An LCD will be used to display the desired speed and the actual speed to showcase the efficiency of the closed loop (PI) controller.
THE BLDC MOTOR STRUCTURE
The motor has a permanent magnet rotor and a wound stator. The stator is wound in such a way so as to produce an even number of pole pairs. There are two types of stator windings
trapezoidal and

sinusoidal.

Ultrasonic Radar Using PC Via USB

Posted by ADMIN at 2:05 PM 0 Comments
Objective
·        To detect objects within the vicinity of a small area or room
·        To rotate the sensor continuously 360 degrees
·        To use an electro-mechanical device to rotate the ultrasonic sensor without twisting its wires
·        To determine what the angle of the motor is
·        To use a microcontroller for distance measurement and motor control
·        To design an appropriate electronic circuit in order to achieve all the above
·        To program the microcontroller using C language
·        To send the data to the computer via USB
·        To create a graphical user interface using LabVIEW programming
·        To display a Radar display with all the objects detected
Project description:
The aim of this project was to design and implement a Radar system for detection of objects within the vicinity using an ultrasonic range sensor. The sensor needed to be mounted on a rotary shaft in order to scan the area 360 degrees at a suitable (Radar) speed. A Microcontroller was used to control the motor, get the range from the sensor, process the data and send it to the PC via USB. The data needed to be displayed on a PC in real time as a Radar display by plotting the distance of the objects vs the angle of the motor.

INTELLIGENT SPEED CONTROL OF SINGLE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR USING FUZZY LOGIC

Posted by Unknown at 7:18 PM 0 Comments

An important factor in industrial progress during the past five decades has been the increasing sophistication of factory automation which has improved productivity many folds. Manufacturing lines typically involve a variety of variable speed motor drives which serve to power conveyor belts, robot arms, overhead cranes, steel process lines, paper mills, and plastic and fiber processing lines to name only a few. Prior to the 1950s all such applications required the use of a DC motor drive since.. FOR FURTHER DETAILS(ABSTRACT, PPT AND CODING) CONTACT US...

Method for Autonomous picking of Paper Reels (Electronics Project)

Posted by Anonymous at 10:39 AM 0 Comments

Autonomous forklift handling systems is one of the most interesting research in the last decades. While research fields such as path planning and map building are taking the most significant work for other type of autonomous vehicles, detecting objects that need to move and picking it up becomes one of the most important research fields in autonomous forklifts field.
We in this research had provided an algorithm for detecting paper reels accurate position in paper reels warehouses giving a map of the warehouse itself. Another algorithm is provided for giving the priority of papers that want to be picked up. Finally two algorithms for choosing the most appropriate direction for picking the target reel and for choosing the safest path to reach the target reel without damage it are provided.
While working on the last two algorithms shows very nice results, building map for unknown stake of papers by accumulating maps over time still tricky. In the following pages we will go in detail by the steps that we followed to provide these algorithms started from giving an over view to the problem background and moving through the method that we used or we developed and ending by result and the conclusion that we got from this work.
